In Estonia, the wild rose is also believed to be a powerful plant. 15 species of wild roses are known to grow in Estonia, most of which are rare or grow only on islands and in Western Estonia. It was believed that lightning would not touch the farm if wild roses and rowan were planted in the yard or by a gate.
Roses and wild roses have been an essential remedy in European folk medicine since the beginning of time. The wild rose has a slightly cooling effect and a wide range of uses. For example, it can be helpful with headaches, ear and throat pain, fever, diarrhoea, burns, and healing wounds. Rose hips or fruits are highly valued as a medicine thanks to their high vitamin C content, which is exceptionally high in Estonian wild rose berries! Wild rose petals are disinfectant and antibacterial. Gargling with wild rose water and wild rose tea can be used to treat inflammation of the tonsils.
