If you’ve spent any time reading about LUMI products, then you’ll already know how much we love recommending skin smoothies – mixing serums and creams together in the palm of your hand before applying to your skin. But why are we so keen on skin smoothies?

It comes down to two key benefits – smoothies allow you to tailor products to your skin’s individual needs, and science shows that it makes products work even better!

We spend a lot of time in the LUMI labs ensuring that our products have the smoothest, most luxuriant texture possible. But everyone’s skin is different, and what works for us may need a little tweaking to be perfect for you!

By mixing your serum and cream together into a smoothie, you can control the overall texture of the mixture, ensuring that it’s just right for your needs. Oily or combination skin, or in a humid climate? You might like a thinner texture that absorbs quickly. Alternatively, thicken up the mixture for drier skin to enhance the effectiveness of emollients. It’s entirely up to you!

Adjusting the texture is great, but the real magic comes from what happens when you mix fat-soluble and water-based products.

Scientific research shows us that, thanks to emulsifiers, the resultant mixture is better absorbed by our skin, as fat-soluble compounds are carried by fatty acids into the dermal layers, whilst hydrophilic (water-loving) compounds help water-soluble ingredients penetrate further, too. What does this mean for you? It’s simple – better application, better absorption, and better results!
